Notes:
  • The first generation to formally have a "G" designation was the G3 and the last was the G6.
  • P/390, R/390 and 3006 (Integrated Server) are also considered "G2" at a current licensed internal code level
  • Linux for S/390 requires a "G5" or later processor or equivalent in 31-bit mode. Linux for System z requires a z/Architecture processor or equivalent in 64-bit mode.
  • The current levels of Linux for z Systems require a z196/z114 processor (or later).

    1. More accurately, z13 is the last processor to have ESA/390 mode.
